Airports Compete For “Airport of the Year” In Europe

Posted on September, 10 2019 by Blueway Limited

It’s close to that time of the year when the much-awaited 2019 AIR Convention Europe Award winner will be announced. This year, the three airports that have made it to the final stage of the awards are George Best Belfast City Airport, Heathrow Airport, and Greater Toronto Airports Authority. While these three airports have been named as the top three in the world, they wait with bated breath to know who among them will hold the title of the best airport in the world, 2019.

London Heathrow Airport

London Heathrow Airport’s T5 Terminal has already been awarded the Skytrax World Airport Award for World’s Best Airport Terminal. It has also won the ‘Skytrax Best Airport Hotel in Europe’ award, along with the Skytrax Best Airports 2019 (70+ million-passengers category).

Winning the AIR Convention Europe Award will be another feather in its cap.

George Best Belfast City Airport

George Best Belfast City Airport progressed to the final stage of the AIR Convention Europe Awards after it received 73% public vote in the first round. Chief Executive of Belfast City Airport, Brian Ambrose, said: “Reaching the final stage of such a prestigious competition is testament to the hard work and effort we put in at the airport, and we’re proud that our commitment to passenger experience and customer service is gaining recognition on a global stage.”

A whopping 2.5 million passengers pass through Belfast City Airport’s terminal every year. The airport certainly delivers an exceptional travelling experience.

George Best Belfast City Airport is situated just 5 minutes away from the city centre. The Telegraph named it as the UK’s and Ireland’s “Most Convenient Airport”. Last year, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) called it UK’s Most Punctual Airport.”

Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA)

The third contender for the prestigious AIR award for best airport in the world is GTAA. The GTAA operates the Toronto Pearson Airport, which is an international hub. Toronto Pearson International Airport was certified by Skytrax earlier this month as a global 4-star airport.
